East-West Airlines

In line with the company’s policy of promoting Australian transport history, Viewmark Film’s latest production tells the story of the rise and fall of East-West Airlines. This iconic Australian carrier (for a brief period in time), became Australia’s third airline – challenging the “heavenly twins,” Ansett and TAA.

It’s advertising theme, ”Making the Good Times Possible” (during the late eighties) was no idle boast!

The airline’s slogan takes pride and place on the front cover of the DVD because of its unique importance.

Why?

East-West introduced a wide range of cheap fares, challenging Ansett and TAA who had made air travel between them, very expensive for the average Australian.

Today, airlines such as Tiger and Jetstar follow the EWA business model which essentially became a low cost and tourist airline – years
ahead of its time.

The documentary commences where it all began in 1947 in Tamworth, New South Wales.

This exciting film contains old footage (most of it in colour).

“I have viewed the DVD “The rise and fall of East-West Airlines” which I found to be very entertaining and informative. As well it was historically correct, and it was great to be reminded of a number of the noteworthy incidents which occurred during the history of the airline.”
Faye Gallagher, Former Flight Attendant  East –West Airlines

“Thank you for making this film. I was secretary to John G Riley, general manager of EWA for three years from 1967 to 1970. The company’s closure was a great loss to Tamworth”
